Hello out there! Honestly, Hawaii feels like it was a million years ago now, but I realized that I never did get the chance to talk about some amazing sushi Haris and I enjoyed on our trip! From Coronavirus to some big changes at my job things have been a whirlwind since we got back. I haven’t felt like writing much because I’ve been mentally and emotionally drained at the end of every day up until today. So here we go… the last food blog about my trip to Hawaii.
On a recommendation of my boss (who is no longer my boss… sad face) Haris and I made the splurge to get some good quality sushi near the end of our trip! And boy was that a great idea. On the island of Kauai, The Dolphin is located on both the North shore and the West shore. Haris and I headed to the West shore location to grab a bite (followed by some shaved ice immediately after). We arrived early and there were already about 4 groups of people ahead of us waiting for the restaurant to open and for them to be seated. Seating is limited, so make sure you get on the list as soon as you can!
We started our dining experience with some drinks and some poke. I, of course went tropical with the above piña colada whilst Haris, true to himself, grabbed a cold beer. Guys, now I grew up in Las Vegas… great food and great sushi everywhere you went… but this poke… well this whole experience was the best sushi and the best fish I’ve ever eaten in my life.

Now this may seem strange to get a mug of seafood chowder at a sushi place in Hawaii, when it’s warm outside, but this came highly recommended to us by a local, so I had to try it. Also, it was very reasonably priced and so good!! The seafood included: calamari, clams, scallops, shrimp; alongside some non-seafood items: bell peppers, potatoes, and white onion in a creamy white sauce. Definitely worth getting and splitting before your sushi binge!

Now for the main event… the sushi! I mean just look at the presentation here. Above is the Kampachi Roll, which is one of their specialty rolls. Below on the right side is the Na Pali roll (real snow crab, avocado, cucumber, with Ahi and green onion). The fish was so food on this roll! The other roll is a shrimp tempura roll. Boy did we struggle between wanting to devour all of these rolls and feeling super full! Don’t worry, we finished them.
If you are ever in Kauai, make sure to check out The Dolphin for your sushi needs. And if you are there right now, they are open for takeout!
