Restaurant Shenanigans: Poke City

on

Remember when it was super easy to go out and eat at a restaurant with friends. Now it’s a little more difficult. I’ve been waiting to post a restaurant review for a bit because it just made me sad to look at the happier times of life, but here is a place that you can still do grab and go and enjoy the hell out of the food if you are in the Denver area! Poke City makes some awesome poke bowls!

First things first: Poke is pronounced (poh-KAY) and rhymes with okay. And here’s a little background information on poke’s history: “Poke /poʊˈkeɪ/ (Hawaiian for “to slice” or “cut crosswise into pieces”;[sometimes stylized Poké to aid pronunciation, also called Poké Bowl) is diced raw fish served either as an appetizer or as a main course and is one of the main dishes of Native Hawaiian cuisine.”

What I love about Poke City is that you can build your own bowl! I typically order half white rice/half salad, salmon and tuna, seaweed, green onions, spicy aioli sauce, cucumber, mango, seaweed salad, crab salad and tempura flakes. YUM!!

But don’t fret, they also have pre-thought out bowls you can order! The nice part is that you can mix and match flavors, fish and the like. Don’t like raw fish? Do you like shrimp? They have shrimp! (who doesn’t like shrimp??) You can always skip the rice if you want something less heavy or you can skip the salad if you don’t like salad.

No matter what you get, you are sure to love it! So if you are in town, go check them out. Grab your bowl and a delicious lemonade and bring it home! And if you are in Colorado… don’t forget to grab that mask and wear it when out and about!
