Recipe: Loco Moco

Hey there, long time no post. With everything happening in the world it really didn’t feel right to write about food. And even now it’s not the perfect time, but it’s important to keep on going for my mental health. Before we jump into today’s recipe I do want to comment that right now more than ever it is important for us to stand together with our black brothers and sisters and fight to show the world that their lives matter. I may never understand, but I stand with them during these times.

Today’s recipe is inspired by my trip to Hawaii and one of my favorites. It’s called a Loco Moco. It’s honestly one of the best dishes to eat as it is simply rice, gravy, hamburger and a fried egg! It’s perfection I promise! Check it out:

Ingredients:

  • 2 Hamburger Patties
  • 1 cup of Rice (dry)
  • 2 packets of Brown Gravy (packets are so much easier to make)
  • 2 Eggs
  • Butter
  • Green onions
  • Salt and Pepper

(Makes 2 servings)

Step 1: Start that rice! I prefer to use a rice cooker because I can set it and leave it.

Step 2: Season your patties. It doesn’t have to be fancy, js\ust add some salt and pepper to each side.

Step 3: Melt a generous amount of butter in a skillet.

Step 4: Add your patties and some green onions and cover.

Step 5: Start that gravy. (Read the instructions, should be just add water and boil)

Step 6: Make sure to flip your patties. You are going to want a nice char on them. Cook until the internal temperature is at least 135 degrees.

Step 7: Once your patties, rice, and gravy are done, fry your eggs.

Step 8: Now we layer. Plate the rice, add a patty, drown it in gravy, add the egg and garnish with some green onions.

Step 9: Break that yolk and get a fork full of each layer! Enjoy!
